Green Initiatives @ Interop
Interop is committed to fostering sustainability within business communities by preventing and reducing waste at Interop events and educating participants and exhibitors about green technology.
Two green educational programs are new to the Interop Las Vegas agenda in 2008:
Energy Camp provides a collaborative forum for industry stakeholders to discuss greener IT solutions and methods. Pre-registration is encouraged.
Green IT Track: Green solutions start with conservation and efficiency in every part of the data center: power systems, servers, storage, cooling systems etc. The Green IT track will teach attendees how to increase efficiency while benefitting the environment.
Interop’s on-site initiatives to prevent and reduce waste:
- Reduced page count and quantities of Program and Exhibits Guides to print 1,000,000 fewer pages than last year.
- Reduced page count, size and quantities of direct mail pieces to print 5,000,000 fewer pages than last year.
- Conference bags made of 50% post consumer recycled material.
- Water coolers will be used for all meal functions rather than individual bottles.
- All workshop coursebooks printed double-sided using post consumer recycled paper.
- Together with Show Manangement’s National General Service Contractor, Champion Exposition Services, Interop has taken the following steps to reduce waste of onsite materials:
- 85% of non-banner show management signage printed on recycled material and will be donated to a local school for use in art projects after the event.
- Amost all show management banners produced on biodegradable material.
- Aisle carpet made of 60% recycled material, with backing made of 100% recycled material. After the lifetime of the carpet, it will be shipped to a mill and melted into a reusable composite used for production of liquid tanks.
- Recycle bin will be placed in the lobby. We’d like to encourage all attendees and exhibitors to join us in this effort and make green choices whenever possible at Interop Las Vegas 2008. Thank you for your support!
